Over the years, I’ve published an annual post with the list of books I’ve read in the previous 12 months. Not every year, though, and many more books are on my virtual shelves. With ever-growing pursuit for a larger TV screen, I’ve heard someone said that it’s the size of your library, not the size of your TV in your lounge room, which represents your level of success. I like that quote, even though I’m not sure of it’s statistical origin. Unfortunately though, my book library and reading list is quite extensive, but it’s not on display in my lounge room. I keep it on my phone (actual books on Audible and Kindle) and have a visual representation on Goodreads.com.
Although it makes more sense, economically, from a sustainability and from a physical space perspective, I still dream of having my own physical library.
In the past couple of weeks, I’ve had another look at my goals and dreams. I’ve added “dreams” to my list of goals, and began putting steps towards fulfilling my dreams, alongside with my goals. I’ve made a decision to buy 5 physical books per month, of the books I’ve read electronically (on Kindle), or listened to via Audible, or a disc (yup, a while back).
Today, my first order arrived from Amazon, and I was overcome with glee! I love the smell, the touch and feel of a physical book. I had felt such a joy taking some ornaments off the book shelf, and replacing them with my new books!
Seeing my bookshelf growing to an actual library, which is a true representation of the books I’ve read and consumed over the years, gives me a sense of accomplishment and pride.
At the moment, I have a 55″ TV screen in my lounge. One day, there will be just a library of the wisdom unlocked from the paper it was printed on.
